With multiple bedrooms, fully equipped kitchens and all the other comforts of home, vacation rentals are always a good bet for family vacations. And there’s nothing wrong with budget hotels, either, especially since they usually offer complimentary perks such as continental breakfasts and use of the swimming pool.

But if you’re looking for something extra-special for your next vacation, surprise the kids (and kids at heart) with a stay in one of these kid-themed hotel rooms that will delight everyone in the family.

The Sweet Escape at Sanderling Resort

Duck, North Carolina

If Homer Simpson could design a hotel room, it would be the Sweet Escape, a collaboration between North Carolina's Sanderling Resort and Duck Donuts.

In partnership with Duck Donuts, Sanderling Resort has launched the Sweet Escape, a donut-themed guest room. Available for bookings through June 30, the room features doughnut-themed everything, from wallpaper to decor as well as a pastry-themed beach kit including a reusable picnic basket, beach towels and pool floats. There’s also an in-room coffee and doughnut bar with donut-decorating kits; and doughnut wake-up calls, which allow you to order adozen doughnut per stay. Basically, if Homer Simpson could design a hotel room, it would be the Sweet Escape.

► Unusual overnights: Spend the night underground at these luxurious cave hotels

Guests who stay in the Sweet Escape room can also take a complimentary behind-the-scenes tour of one of the original Duck Donuts locations in the Outer Banks.
