The Art and Making of Hogwarts Legacy, an official book detailing the production of the game, may forecast when the Harry Potter spin-off will launch.

A new art book dedicated to chronicling the creation of the upcoming video game Hogwarts Legacy may provide fans with a release window.

According to The Rowling Library, The Art and Making of Hogwarts Legacy is currently scheduled to launch on Sept. 6, 2022. The companion book to the game is expected to provide fans with a detailed breakdown of Avalanche Software’s development process. Written by Jody Revenson, the project itself may be enough to excite fans of the Harry Potter franchise but it could also provide a hint as to when Hogwarts Legacy will officially launch. Given that artbooks are usually released shortly after the source material, this suggests that Hogwarts Legacy could launch in September or even earlier.

While The Art and Making of Hogwarts Legacy doesn’t necessarily equate to a formal launch window for the game, it does line up with rumors that the game is aiming for a September release. These rumors come amidst whispers that Hogwarts Legacy has been plagued by developmental issues and will be delayed into 2023. Warner Bros. eventually clarified that production of the fantasy action-adventure title is still on track, while some of the publisher’s other titles have reportedly not fared as well.

Hogwarts Legacy will allow players to step into the mysterious Wizard World as they create and play an original student who enrolls at the iconic school. Set a century before the events of JK Rowling’s Harry Potter books, the game is expected to tell a unique story featuring a new cast of characters. Beyond learning spells and sleep explore quests about the castle, players will be able to be able to locations such as the sinister Forbidden Forest and the town of Hogsmeade. Young witches and wizards will need to be careful though as the forces of darkness are gathering…

While Hogwarts Legacy is one of the year’s most anticipated games, its announcement left many fans torn. Some questioned whether Rowling, following a string of controversial posts regarding the transgender community, was involved with the game. Avalanche Software confirmed that the author was not tied to the game, writing in an FAQ, “JK Rowling is not directly involved in the creation of the game, however, her extraordinary body of writing is the foundation of all projects in the Wizarding World. This is not a new story from JK Rowling.”

Hogwarts Legacy will launch for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
